Library Receives Dickens Collection

The David A. Cofrin Library is the recent recipient of a collection of Charles Dickens materials generously donated by Marjorie Hood, a friend of Chancellor Emeritus Edward Weidner. The collection consists of books by Charles Dickens and his descendents, the periodical The Dickensian (years 1929-1960 with a few missing from WWII years), some illustrations, writings and clippings regarding Dickens, lectures on Dickens by Dr. Elliot Engel of North Carolina State, Christmas books featuring Dickens' works, and an assortment of videos, records, and puzzles featuring works of Dickens. There are approximately 175 items in the collection.

Some of the collection has been catalogued. Call numbers for catalogued items in the collection can be found by doing a keyword search in the library catalog on Marjorie Hood. Other items are awaiting appraisal.

A display will run the month of December in the display case in the library concourse showcasing some of the donated items.
